Thames & Kosmos STEM Plasma Ball Kit, 12.7 cm glass sphere, USB-C powered, 14+ years

The Thames & Kosmos STEM Plasma Ball kit offers a mesmerizing light show, where the glass sphere creates glowing electric tentacles, like lightning flowing from your fingertips. It is an object that combines visual fun with scientific learning, suitable for those passionate about electrical phenomena and how matter works.

Plasma is the fourth state of matter: it is neither solid, liquid, nor gas, but a supercharged ionized gas found in every star. The device works by sending a high-voltage alternating current from a Tesla coil in its center, through a noble gas, to the inner surface of the glass sphere. The escaping electrons cause the inert gas inside the sphere to light up, creating the stunning effects you can see in your palm.

The design of the sphere allows you to display it on a table or hang it on a wall like a sconce. It can be powered via a USB-C cable, included in the kit, or by four AAA batteries which are not included. The power adapter is not included. The device has two operating modes: permanently on and sound-activated, and in sound-activated mode, you can watch the plasma arcs dance to the rhythm of your favorite song.

The kit is safe to use as long as you follow all instructions and precautions. Read the instructions before use, follow them, and keep them for reference. The product is manufactured by Thames & Kosmos in England and is recommended for ages 14 and up. The interactive light show with electricity turns the study of plasma into an engaging experience for the whole family.
