Learning Resources Magnetic Game Math Fun for Addition and Subtraction 4-10 years

The Magnetic Math Fun game from Learning Resources is a useful teaching tool for illustrating addition or subtraction in a way that is easy for little ones to understand. The magnetic components attach securely to the board, and the set can be used to introduce many mathematical concepts. Together with the children, you can invent all sorts of math problems and illustrate the operations needed to reach the result in a fun way.

To use, place the pieces on a magnetic board (not included in the package) as illustrated, so that the funnel is above the numbered tray. You can place the equals sign either to the left or to the right, or you can omit it if the children are younger. Thus, the game adapts to both beginners and children who have already mastered the basics.

For addition, note above each container how many balls you are putting in, for example 4 in one container and 3 in another. Drop the balls one by one through the funnel and tell the children that 7 balls must end up in the tray. At the end, count the balls to demonstrate the correspondence. For subtraction, recount the total number of balls in the tray, note the result, ask the child how many balls of the same color there are and have them take them out, then note the minus sign followed by the number of balls removed.

The set includes 2 containers, one blue and one green, a funnel with a plus sign, a numbered tray, 20 balls divided into 10 blue and 10 green, as well as an English-language guide. Repeat the mathematical sequence noted previously, explaining how many balls there were initially, how many were removed, and how many remained, so that the little ones can understand the correspondence between numbers and objects.
