Thames & Kosmos Sound-Sensing Robot STEM Kit Hero 142 plastic pieces 8 years+

The Thames & Kosmos STEM Robot Kit with sound detection brings you Hero, a robot that hears everything through its three directional microphones. Through them, Hero perceives and reacts to sounds, and the smart sound-sensing technology serves as the foundation for the four game modes you can explore. It can locate you, follow you, be controlled remotely via voice commands, and you can even play an intense game of tag together, all through sound detection.

To send commands to Hero, you clap your hands or use the included castanet, so the remote control works screen-free through a high-tech game. Hero's innovative design includes movable arms that can retract into its spherical body and a huge, illuminated eye used for facial expressions. It is a robot designed to react to the sound environment around it and offer a complete interactive experience.

You build Hero from over 100 pieces—142 pieces, to be exact—and the color manual guides you through the step-by-step assembly and includes an adventure comic. The set also contains 4 experiments through which you learn how Hero's super-hearing works and everything about sound waves and spatial hearing. Thus, the game combines construction, experimentation, and active play into a single product in the STEM Science and Experiments category.

The toy is made of plastic and runs on 4 AAA batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries, and do not mix alkaline, standard carbon-zinc, or rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries. Adult supervision is recommended while playing, and instructions for adults are included and must be followed. The product is intended for children over 8 years old due to the accessible electronic components.
