The code breaker places four colored code pegs in the first row of holes, trying to guess the color combination and exact positions of the secret code. The code creator responds with clue pegs: a red peg for every code peg that is the right color and in the correct position, a white peg for every code peg that is the right color but not in the correct position, and the absence of a clue peg indicates a color that is not used in the code.
